Erik Salazar What a fantastic EP this is. Melding the sounds of doom metal and old school death metal (with some melodic touches), this EP makes me think of some of the Peaceville Big 3 (namely Katatonia and My Dying Bride). DWP’s first release of 2024 makes a hell of a statement for being a top EP contender for 2024, even though it’s only March. It’s that good. Favorite track: Weight of Darkness.

1.
Empty cold eyes Stare blank forever Among the dead Buried beneath them Guardians of eternity Groundskeepers of solemn plains Stone rots slower than flesh Monuments to divinity Only to decay in time The dust on the breeze All that remains Stone wings Too heavy to fly What is an Angel trapped on the ground, But another body to rot?
2.
The godling In the mind’s eye Twinkling darkness Folds Bodies strewn across the land Everflowing patterns arise Upon the Crucified immortal dragon An ocean of power from a mere drop of rain Swords of the sky Seeking an earthly throat Selfish fallen gods Gain power from worship alone Convergence of power Igniting ancient flames and severing cosmic ties A burden no more I was a god and now I ascend Eternal throne, slave to my blade no more Dragnipur!
3.
Weeping in the bleak, gray garden Feeding (the) earth with caustic tears Seeking (the) obsidian embrace of night A corpse feigning as a soul Sedated by the burden of presence The corpse’s breathing slowed One breath a season, Sighing a winter storm Thy Eternal funeral But without burial The wish of life: the only thing that dies An end to forever Who will grant death to the deathless Knighted by the blessing of Death The kingdom I look upon Greets me with eyes As empty as my own Reaching out with something like desperation Death guides my hand Champion of ruin Galloping a dread steed The corpse turns his head Towards the sun Immeasurable forces that keep my body poised In the posture of a corpse that lives and breathes
4.
The Spire 04:28
The eagle upon The Highest peak Replaced by the vulture Black wings fly Cavernous and dark My screams echo for centuries Among dead roots and damp earth I rest Cascaded, Bleak sorrow Transcending life and death I’ve passed away But life’s pain has found me From my dead heart A dread spire rises The peak grown from pain Reaching towards the heavens Ever searching for peace Away from the anguish of earth An eternal perch for the seeker of death I rot away at the base of the spire
